Launch into the Future: Canada's Premier Student Rocketry Conference Takes Flight this Saturday

In a groundbreaking event set to define the next frontier of aerospace exploration and innovation, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) proudly hosts Canada's inaugural Student Rocketry Conference this Saturday. A collaboration between MetRocketry, the university’s student club promoting aerospace, and Launch Canada, an industry-partnered grassroots rocketry initiative, carves out a pivotal space for 100+ students, engineers, and visionaries at the Centre for Urban Innovation on Saturday, March 16, from 9am to 5pm.

The conference will distinguish itself with a stellar assembly of speakers from across the nation and beyond. Among them,

Conference Chair

Wintta Ghebreiyesus, PhD student at TMU has participated in the TMU Rocketry Club and serves as a judge at the Inaugural Launch Canada Challenge. Her experiences underline a deeper commitment to fostering a vibrant and collaborative space and rocketry community across Canada. Transitioning from a competitor to a supporter, her story is a mirror to the evolving landscape of Canadian aerospace—an arena brimming with innovation and passion.

Government Official

Patrice Barnes, MPP, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Education, and a former DDSB School Trustee, will bring a governmental perspective to the forefront, emphasizing the importance of integrating advanced space technologies and education.

Opening Speaker

Adam Trumpour, Founder and President of Launch Canada, and a gas turbine and rocket propulsion professional, will share invaluable insights into the challenges and triumphs of rocket engineering.

Closing Speaker

Rahul Goel, Founder and CEO of Nordspace, a trailblazer in developing orbital class launch vehicles, satellite services, and advanced robotics, will highlight how space technologies are pivotal in advancing life on Earth.

Karina Sapelnikova – Propulsion Engineer at RFA, Rocket Factory Augsburg

William Pirie – Internship Experience at CTI, Cesaroni Technology Inc.

University and student presenters include:

Joel Godard and Thomas Fairhead, Waterloo Rocketry, Waterloo University

Ben Kubica and Shivesh Maraj – Metropolitan Aerospace Combustion Hub, TMU

Emily Lai – Ontario Tech Space and Rocketry, Ontario Tech University

Nathan Liu – Metropolitan Aerospace Rocket Society, TMU
